BREAST AUGMENTATION
AUGMENTATION MAMMOPLASTY
Feeling comfortable with the shape and size of the chest is essential to have self-confidence. Thus, with the aim of improving their silhouette, many women decide to put themselves in the hands of specialists in breast augmentation.
Augmentation mammoplasty is a breast operation that aims to improve the volume and shape of the breasts. There are different techniques to achieve natural harmony and help you feel better about yourself.
Each patient is unique: women with small or asymmetrical breasts, who have lost volume after pregnancy, weight loss, etc. In our clinic we will advise you on the best solution for your case.
Our plastic surgeons are professionals with a long history and in continuous training. They will help you choose what best suits your needs from the most advanced breast augmentation surgical techniques.
Augmentation mammoplasty with prosthesis
This breast augmentation operation consists of the placement of a breast prosthesis that simulates a woman’s gland.
With the most advanced technologies we offer our patients the most innovative and top quality breast implants on the market. In this way we can guarantee maximum safety and the most natural result, with imperceptible scars.
The choice of the technique, the types of breast implants, as well as their size, are agreed with the patient, taking into account their physical and anatomical characteristics, seeking proportionality, naturalness and harmony.
Our surgeons will advise and guide you from the first informative visit to the post-operative period.
Mammoplasty with fat – Fat transfer
The breast augmentation technique with the patient´s own fat consists of using fat extracted from the same patient, as filler material, to give volume or reshape the breasts.
The fatty tissue is obtained, through liposuction, from an area of excess from different parts of the body (such as the abdomen or hips), it is then filtered to later be infiltrated into the breasts.
The results of this process are long-lasting and natural, since by using the patient’s own tissue, possible rejections are avoided as well as scars.
Lipotransfer or lipofilling is an increasingly demanded and safe procedure. This is due to the standardization of the method and the constant innovation provided by collaborations with biomolecular regenerative medicine professionals.
Axillary endoscopic mammoplasty
Thanks to the technological and surgical advances of the last decades, it is possible to increase the size of the breasts with breast implants, avoiding leaving visible scars on them.
With endoscopic axillary mammoplasty, the scar is hidden in the natural fold of the armpit, being practically invisible over time. Another advantage is that it does not require cutting breast tissue for the placement of the prostheses, making it more stable and durable over time.
Endoscopic help allows the surgeon direct vision, thus allowing bleeding to be controlled, reducing the risk of hematomas or seromas (main causes of capsular contracture). This technique also makes it possible to correctly release the muscle insertions, creating a suitable pocket or hole for implant placement.
Hybrid Mammoplasty
Hybrid mammoplasty consists of increasing the breast by combining breast prostheses with the patient’s own fat.
The placement of breast implants, smaller than usual, is complemented by a lipotransfer, which allows the surgeon to finish shaping the breast.
With this combination an even more natural result is achieved and the smallest possible scars are guaranteed.
This innovative method is an interesting alternative according to the demands of the new generations, who prioritize a natural breast with a real texture.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A breast surgery usually lasts between 1-3 hours, depending on the case and the type of intervention. Normally, breast augmentation surgery lasts 2 hours, with the exception of hybrid mammoplasty, which lasts 3 hours.
In selected cases, a volumetric breast augmentation can be achieved using fat from the same patient.
Breast augmentation surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. However, in the prosthesis replacement intervention or in some cases of breast augmentation, the option of applying local anesthesia plus sedation may be considered.
7-14 days after the intervention, the patient will be able to return to her daily routine. However, it will depend on the type of intervention and the work to be performed. The guidelines for returning to physical exercise will be established with the surgeon.
It is necessary to fast for at least 6 to 7 hours (no food or drink) before the time of surgery. You should also avoid wearing metal in direct contact with the body (such as earrings, chains, watches, rings, etc.) and go with a clean face, without makeup or nail polish.
A blood test, an electrocardiogram and in some cases a chest X-ray will be needed. Depending on the age of the patient or the familiarity of some pathologies, a breast ultrasound, a mammogram or an MRI will be requested.
Before the breast operation it is recommended not to smoke or take medications that can alter blood coagulation (such as some analgesics or some natural products). In patients who usually take anticoagulants, it will be the doctor who will indicate the suspension.
Depending on the type of technique or surgery, the postoperative period for breast augmentation may vary. In general, discomfort after a mammoplasty is easily controlled with pain relievers.
For one month you will not be able to do strong movements or intense physical activities. The patient must wear a specific bra that will be provided by the doctor. In some cases, the application of cold through Hilotherapy will also be recommended.
A good postoperative period, respecting the guidelines, will avoid future complications, guarantee a faster recovery and better results. In breast lift surgery, more than in other interventions, smoking will influence the scars.
Depending on the type of intervention, 24-hour hospitalization will be necessary or, on the contrary, it can be performed on an outpatient basis. Prosthesis replacement, for example, in many cases does not require hospital admission.
After breast augmentation surgery, the best sleeping position, at least during the first week, is face up, keeping the head higher than the chest. For greater comfort and to facilitate this position, pillows can be used. In the same way, the surgeon will indicate when you can sleep on your side again.
The result of a breast augmentation begins to be appreciated from the fourth week after the intervention, once the skin has relaxed. Although it will improve over the next three months, you must wait for the maturation period of the scars to elapse, which in the case of the breasts will be between 6 and 12 months.
No implant is for life! Today’s implants can last more than ten years. We recommend monitoring by MRI at 10 years and every 5 years after that first review. In general, if the results are correct, it will not be necessary to change the implants. However, it is advisable to make a visit for a possible replacement between 10 and 15 years or only for follow-up programming. Prosthesis replacement, if necessary, is simpler and less annoying than the primary intervention.
Modern silicone gel prostheses reduce the risks of the implant being deformed or broken, in fact, they are prepared for a long duration.
Depending on the anatomical characteristics of each patient (chest width, skin quality…) we can adapt to a greater or lesser extent to your wishes or tastes.
Possibly. With lipofilling, the infiltrated fat will respond in the same way as the rest of the fat in the body, that is, the chest will gain volume proportionally to the rest of the body.
No problem. If you want to gain volume, fat transfer can be complemented with an implant, since the infiltrated fat is part of the structure of the breast.
It is possible to remove breast prostheses and do a lipotransference, but it must be taken into account that we cannot put fat in the space where the implants were, because the cells do not join the tissues, and they die. Part of the fat can be transplanted in a first intervention and the rest in a second or even third. It is important to note that there must be enough fat to obtain the same size as the prostheses.
Weight itself is not a determining factor for performing this type of surgery, but the patient must have sufficient accumulations of fat in the donor areas to be able to extract it. In addition, it must be borne in mind that only around 35% of what is extracted is of sufficient quality to transplant.
This type of surgery should not affect the possibility of lactation. In general, and in most cases, it is possible to breastfeed after a breast intervention.
Nipple sensitivity is not usually altered after a mammoplasty. Even so, in some cases the sensitivity increases or decreases temporarily, gradually recovering its normal state.
Normally it is recommended to wait between 2 and 3 weeks to resume physical exercise, which should be smooth and progressive. From there, the doctor will set the tone to return to daily routines after surgery.
On the contrary, the access route with the highest risk of infection and capsular contracture is the periareolar route, since the area of the areola and the nipple have a higher concentration of bacteria. On the contrary, the armpit and inframammary fold have similar results, since the prosthesis does not come into contact with the nipple-areola.
Endoscopic axillary mammoplasty is usually not painful due to the surgical technique used. The patient may notice pressure in the breasts and sometimes small punctures like laces and, in some cases, dysesthesia or tingling in the fingers.
