RECONSTRUCTIVE PLASTIC SURGERY

RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY

Reconstructive plastic surgery restores or improves the function and physical appearance of congenital problems (malformations), injuries caused by accidents and burns, skin tumors and supporting tissues.

Skin cancer, for example, is one of the most common diseases treated by plastic surgeons in the Mediterranean countries. Some people, due to their phototype or genetic factors, have a higher risk of suffering from it than others. The same goes for breast cancer.

However, what appears is not always cancer, sometimes some benign lesions can be confused by the patient and become a constant concern. Even a lump that appears suddenly can be a pathological scar or a simple sebaceous cyst.

The hands are also part of the reconstructive surgery covered by the plastic surgeon. Congenital malformations, such as syndactyly or hand trauma, such as tendon injuries or amputations, have excellent results with reconstructive surgery.

The surgical techniques used in reconstructive plastic surgery are based on tissue mobilization and transplantation by means of grafts and flaps or even implants made of inert material.

In short, the objective of reconstructive surgery is to return a normal appearance and restore the functionality of an affected part of the body,in an aesthetically correct and minimally invasive way.

Most common procedures of reconstructive surgery:

Lipotransference. Lipofilling or lipotransfer is a technique that consists of extracting fat from an area of the body in which there is excess and transferring it to another part that is to be reconstructed. In addition to being used for aesthetic purposes, it is also an effective solution used in reconstructive surgery, such as in cases of breast reconstruction after a mastectomy.

Burn sequelae. In order to restore functionality to the affected area, reconstructive surgery helps repair scars caused by burns. To do this, the burned skin is removed and replaced by flaps or artificial skin.

Breast reconstruction. Reconstructive breast surgery is performed after a mastectomy, or surgical removal of the breast, to treat or prevent breast cancer. Its objective is to restore the shape and aesthetic appearance of the breast and improve the quality of life of the patient. It is one of the most requested procedures of reconstructive surgery. There are different surgical techniques in breast reconstruction: with implants by means of flaps, which can be complemented with other procedures, such as the reconstruction of the areola and nipple.

BEFORE AND AFTER

The trust of our patients extends to the post-operative period, when they allow us to share their before and after so that other people can see our work. The only retouching of these images is that of tattoo ink and skin moles, erased to protect the privacy of our patients.
