LABIAPLASTY
FEMALE INTIMATE SURGERY
It is increasingly common for women, in addition to taking care of their facial and body appearance, to worry about their intimate area, either for aesthetic reasons or to solve health problems.
For these reasons, and in order to feel better about themselves, many women decide to entrust themselves to experts in intimate surgery or genital surgery. Among the most common interventions we find labiaplasty or remodeling of the labia minora and labia majora.
Alterations due to postpartum changes, discomfort when having sexual relations or wanting a female genital rejuvenation, are some of the most common reasons why patients undergo this type of surgery.
Labia minora remodeling (Nymphoplasty)
One of the most common interventions is labiaplasty, also called nymphoplasty, which corrects the female genitalia by decreasing the size of the labia minora.
The appearance of the labia minora, sometimes overdeveloped (hypertrophic) or pendulous, is a cause for insecurities and can cause discomfort.
This type of surgery is ambulatory and is performed under local anesthesia and sedation.
Labia majora remodeling
Excessively large labia cause unpleasant bulges, which are especially evident when wearing tight clothing and can cause an unsightly effect.
Through surgery we can reduce the size of the labia majora and end the disproportion caused by flaccidity or aging.
There are different techniques that are performed with local anesthesia and sedation, for greater patient comfort, or on an outpatient basis.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Intimate surgery can solve birth problems, as well as other problems added by age or childbirth, among others, that alter the aesthetics of the external female genitalia. It is common to observe labia minora that are too large, asymmetrical, and that protrude too much, as well as an excess or decrease in mons pubis fat, hair loss, a decrease in the labia majora, and even laxity of the vestibule and vaginal canal.
As a result, all these situations can affect the intimate life of patients to a greater or lesser degree, even when doing sports, waxing or wearing tight clothing in the area.
Due to the characteristics of the skin, the intimate mucosa and the location of the incisions in natural folds, the scars are practically invisible. However, in order to see the definitive results, the usual healing period in surgery must pass.
The intervention time of this type of surgery is short, between 30 and 90 minutes. The patient will be able to go home approximately one hour after the procedure.
To carry out intimate surgery, such as labiaplasty, it is necessary to carry out a preoperative study that includes a blood test and an electrocardiogram. Likewise, in specific cases and if necessary, the doctor may request additional tests.
An intimate surgery is generally performed with local anesthesia and sedation, depending on the degree of sensitivity of the patient and the number of interventions being done in the same surgery.
In most cases intimate surgery is ambulatory and does not require hospitalization. With all this, after a period of observation the patient can go home that same day.
Before intimate surgery, such as labiaplasty, it is advisable not to smoke or take medications that can alter blood coagulation (such as some pain relievers or natural products). In addition, in patients who usually take anticoagulants, it will be the doctor who will indicate the suspension. The period is not a determining factor, but it is advisable to perform the surgery one week after it ends.
Recovery is quite fast. However, it is common to have mild discomfort during the first days, as well as swelling in the genital area. Postoperative edema will depend on each patient and the procedures performed. There is normally significant swelling during the first 3 or 4 days, which will decrease until it disappears after 15 days, in most cases. In addition, the application of cold (Hiloterapy) will help reduce recovery time in addition to taking analgesics and anti-inflammatories.
The suture that is performed in intimate surgery is with absorbable stitches, so it is not necessary to remove them, as they will fall on their own. On the contrary, if non-resorbable stitches are used in specific cases, they will be removed in 10 days.
It is necessary to maintain adequate hygiene and hydration care, using intimate soaps with chlorhexidine. It is also advisable not to use very hot water and avoid tight clothing in the intimate area.
In general, it is recommended not to have sexual intercourse for 3-5 weeks after the intervention. However, this period may vary depending on the type of intervention and the evolution of each patient.
Rest should be kept for the first 48 hours. Depending on the type of surgery performed and the work to be performed, reinstatement may vary. In light interventions and sedentary jobs, it is possible that, the next day. However, in more complex operations it may be necessary to wait a week or 15 days.
