OTHER BREAST TREATMENTS
TUBEROUS BREASTS
Tuberous breasts are a benign, mono or bilateral, mammary anomaly. It is an aesthetic irregularity, that affects many women emotionally, causing complexes, insecurities, often low self-esteem and problems in their way of relating to others.
Tuberous breasts, or tubular breasts, consist of insufficient development of the lower part of the breast. As a result, instead of developing in a full, round form, the breast only grows forward from the areola itself.
The development of the breasts from this deficient base of implantation does not allow them to grow properly. Together with the formation of flanges or constrictive bands, its appearance at the end of development is that of too separated breasts, with a tubular shape and drooping downwards.
In this way, the growing gland feels imprisoned in the skin that does not expand and has a tendency to herniate and come out through the place of least resistance, which is the thin skin of the areola and the nipple.
This tuberous breast can be corrected by surgery. The intervention consists of the complete the reduction of the areolar diameter and the fragmentation of the constriction band or flange in the lower pole.
This allows skin distention and development of the lower part of the breast. However, in many cases an increase in volume with a breast implant or the performance of lipofilling and/or breast lift is also required.

INVERTED NIPPLE
It is said that a nipple is inverted when it does not protrude out and is hidden, buried in the areola. It can always be retracted or sometimes protrude when faced with stimuli, such as temperature changes, pushed by the contracting areolar muscle.
It is a more frequent malformation than we imagine, since around 8-10% of women suffer from it. This pathology can be congenital or acquired in adulthood.
In most cases there are no problems of infections, tumors or any other alteration. In addition, it normally affects both breasts, and depending on the severity, the inverted nipple is classified into three types: Grade I, Grade II and Grade III.
In 90% of cases, the degree of inverted nipple is I or II. Grade III, the most advanced, makes breastfeeding impossible.
Through a small surgery it is possible to definitively solve the retraction of the nipple. It is performed under local anesthesia and sedation on an outpatient basis. The scars are imperceptible after a short time and sick leave is not required.
In this way, the intervention does not alter the sensitivity or color of the nipple. As a result, it is possible to restore the nipple-areola complex to its natural appearance, in a simple and controlled way.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Tuberous breast surgery lasts 3 hours, depending on the type of technique.
In selected cases of tuberous breast correction, fat from the same patient can be used for a more harmonious and natural result.
In selected cases, a volumetric breast augmentation can be achieved using fat from the same patient.
7-14 days after the intervention, the patient will be able to return to her daily routine. Even so, it will depend on the type of intervention and the work to be carried out. Finally, the guidelines for returning to physical exercise will be established with the surgeon.
It is necessary to fast for at least 6 to 7 hours (no food or drink) before the time of surgery. You should also avoid wearing metal in direct contact with the body, such as earrings, chains, watches, rings, etc.) In addition, the patient must come with a clean face, without makeup or nail polish.
A blood test, an electrocardiogram and in some cases a chest X-ray will be needed. In the same way, depending on the age of the patient or the familiarity of some pathologies, a breast ultrasound, a mammogram or an MRI will be requested.
Before surgery, it is recommended not to smoke or take medications that can alter blood coagulation (such as some pain relievers or some natural products). With all this, in patients who habitually take anticoagulants, the doctor will indicate the suspension.
Depending on the type of technique or surgery, the postoperative period may vary, but in general the discomfort after a mammoplasty is easily controlled with analgesics.
A good postoperative period, respecting the guidelines, helps to avoid future complications and will guarantee a faster recovery and better results. In breast lift surgery, tobacco use will influence scars more than in other interventions.
Depending on the type of intervention, 24-hour hospitalization will be necessary or, in specific cases, it can be performed on an outpatient basis.
During the first week after chest surgery, the best position to sleep is face up, keeping the head higher than the thorax. For greater comfort and to facilitate this posture, pillows can be used. However, the surgeon will indicate when you can sleep on your side again.
The result begins to be appreciated from the fourth week after the intervention, once the skin has relaxed. Although it will improve over the next three months, you must wait for the maturation period of the scars to elapse, which in the case of the breasts will be between 6 and 12 months.
No problem. If you want to gain volume, fat transfer can be complemented with an implant, since the infiltrated fat is part of the structure of the breast.
This type of surgery should not affect the possibility of lactation. However, in some cases you may notice a reduction in milk production.
Nipple sensitivity is not usually altered after a tuberous breast correction. Even so, in some cases the sensitivity decreases temporarily or partially.
Normally it is recommended to wait between 2 and 3 weeks to resume physical exercise, which should be smooth and progressive. However, the doctor will set the tone for returning to daily routines after surgery.
Yes, in breast surgery inverted nipples can be corrected.
No, it can be done on an outpatient basis.
Nipple sensitivity may be reduced in the case of very difficult inverted nipples.
