REPLACEMENT OF BREAST PROSTHESIS
REPLACEMENT OR REMOVAL OF PROSTHESIS
Any type of breast implant should be reviewed 10-15 years after placement and, if necessary, be replaced by a professional. In the case of fallen breasts, a rupture of the implant or contractures, the replacement of breast prostheses will be essential.
The prosthesis replacement operation is simple. The implants are replaced by newer ones, of the highest quality, guaranteeing greater safety for the patient.
It is performed on an outpatient basis, with local anesthesia and sedation and the postoperative period is almost non-existent. In addition, it is possible to combine this intervention with a breast lift, and thus achieve an attractive and youthful result.
To detect and avoid complications, it is very important that a specialized plastic surgeon performs a follow-up of the breast implants.

The trust of our patients extends to the post-operative period, when they allow us to share their before and after so that other people can see our work. The only retouching of these images is that of tattoo ink and skin moles, erased to protect the privacy of our patients.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A replacement surgery usually lasts between 1-2 hours, depending on the case and the type of intervention. Normally, the replacement of breast prostheses is very fast.
In selected cases, a volumetric breast augmentation can be achieved using fat from the same patient.
In selected cases, a volumetric breast augmentation can be achieved using fat from the same patient. However, in the case of replacement of breast prostheses or in some cases of breast augmentation, the option of applying local anesthesia plus sedation may be considered.
7-14 days after the intervention, the patient will be able to return to her daily routine. However, it will depend on the intervention and the type of work to be performed. Finally, the guidelines for returning to physical exercise will be established with the surgeon.
It is necessary to fast for at least 6 to 7 hours (no food or drink) before the time of surgery. You should also avoid wearing metal in direct contact with the body (such as earrings, chains, watches, rings, etc.) and go with a clean face, without makeup or nail polish.
A blood test, an electrocardiogram and in some cases a chest X-ray will be needed. Depending on the age of the patient or the familiarity of some pathologies, a breast ultrasound, a mammogram or an MRI will be requested.
Before surgery, it is recommended not to smoke or take medications that can alter blood coagulation (such as some pain relievers or some natural products). In addition, in patients who usually take anticoagulants, it will be the doctor who will indicate the suspension.
Depending on the type of technique or surgery, the postoperative period may vary. But in general the discomfort after a breast implant replacement is easily controlled with analgesics.
A good postoperative period, respecting the guidelines, helps to avoid future complications and will guarantee a faster recovery and better results. In breast lift surgery, tobacco use will influence scars more than in other interventions.
Depending on the type of intervention, a 24-hour hospitalization will be necessary, or it can be performed on an outpatient basis. In breast prosthesis replacement surgery, in many cases hospital admission is not required.
During the first week after chest surgery, the best position to sleep is face up, keeping the head higher than the thorax. For greater comfort and to facilitate this position, pillows can be used. With all this, the surgeon will indicate when you can sleep on your side again.
The result begins to be appreciated from the fourth week after the intervention, once the skin has relaxed. Although it will improve over the next three months, you must wait for the maturation period of the scars to elapse, which in the case of the breasts will be between 6 and 12 months.
No implant is for life! Today’s implants can last more than ten years. We recommend monitoring by MRI at 10 years and every 5 years after that first review. In general, if the results are correct, a replacement of breast prostheses will not be required. In any case, it is advisable to carry out a follow-up between 10 and 15 years. The replacement operation, if necessary, is simpler and less annoying than the primary intervention.
Modern silicone gel prostheses reduce the risks of the implant being deformed or broken. In fact, they are prepared for a long duration.
Depending on the anatomical characteristics of each patient (chest width, skin quality…) we can adapt to a greater or lesser extent to your wishes or tastes.
No problem. If you want to gain volume, fat transfer can be complemented with an implant, since the infiltrated fat is part of the structure of the breast.
It is possible to remove breast prostheses and do a lipotransference, but it must be taken into account that we cannot put fat in the space where the implants were, because the cells do not join the tissues, and they die. Part of the fat can be transplanted in a first intervention and the rest in a second or even third. It is important to note that there must be enough fat to obtain the same size as the prostheses.
Normally it is recommended to wait between 2 and 3 weeks to resume physical exercise, which should be smooth and progressive. However, the doctor will set the tone to return to the routine after surgery.
