RHINOPLASTY

NOSE OPERATION

The nose is a key element in facial aesthetics, since it provides balance and harmony. Situated in the center of the face, it is the protagonist in expressiveness and facial features. Whether in order to improve your aesthetics, functionality or looking for a reconstruction, rhinoplasty has become one of the most performed surgeries in the world.

This type of surgery consists of modifying the shape and size of the nose. With rhinoplasty it is possible to restructure each of the pieces, both cartilage and bone, internal and external that give their characteristic pyramidal shape, achieving a harmonious result with the rest of the structures of the face.

In addition to improving the aesthetic part, nasal functionality is a fundamental element to preserve or recover through surgery. Sometimes, the nose operation also has a restorative objective, since it treats problems such as trauma or malformations.

Each patient is unique and therefore we will advise you based on your factions and needs. Our surgeons will be able to achieve a harmonious and aesthetic shape to your face, as well as excellent functionality. There are different techniques to perform a nose operation, which will depend on the needs of each case.

Open Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty is performed through a small incision in the center of the nose, in the skin that separates the nostrils. This type of rhinoplasty allows direct access to the internal structure of the nose, cartilage and bone. Consequently, more precise and extensive corrections can be made, which is why it is indicated for more complex cases. The location of the incision leaves a virtually imperceptible scar.

Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is the newest and most revolutionary technique in the field of nose surgery. This intervention corrects nasal deformities through piezoelectric technology, achieving greater precision in the modifications of the nasal bones and avoiding damage to the soft tissues. This type of surgery implies a lower risk of complications and decreases postoperative recovery time.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a non-invasive alternative that consists of reshaping the nose. This option, which uses injectable fillers, can be considered in cases of mild alterations of the nose.
Through hyaluronic acid minor asymmetries and imperfections are corrected, in order to improve the appearance of the nose. This procedure is fast, painless and avoids the risks of surgery.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Through rhinoplasty we improve the appearance and functionality of the nose. Regarding the aesthetic part, you can reduce the size and width, modify the angle of the nose, soften the bridge, as well as modify the shape and size of the tip of the nose. With a view to improving respiratory function, we can straighten the nasal septum to improve breathing, as well as widen or narrow the nostrils, reduce turbinates, etc.

Some surgeons resort to rhinoplasty with facial fillers, as an alternative to non-surgical rhinoplasty. However, the results obtained are temporary and limited, since it only allows small adjustments. On the contrary, rhinoplasty can correct any imperfection permanently.

Current techniques allow scars to be hidden inside the nose or well concealed. In general, we leave a small scar at the base of the nose, at the point that separates both nostrils. However, this scar is very discreet and over the months it will be imperceptible.

The usual duration of a rhinoplasty is between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the surgery.

In most cases, this type of surgery is performed under general anesthesia, which is why the patient usually stays overnight.

To perform a nose job, a blood test, an electrocardiogram, a nasal CT scan, and in some cases a chest X-ray will be needed.

In the hours prior to the intervention, it is recommended not to smoke or take medications that can alter blood coagulation (such as some analgesics or some natural products). In patients who regularly take anticoagulants, it will be the doctor who will indicate the suspension.

In most cases it is recommended to fast for at least 6-7 hours (no food or drinks) before surgery. As in most surgeries, you should also avoid wearing metal in direct contact with the body (earrings, watches, rings, etc.). Finally, it is advisable to go without makeup, nail polish and shave the day before surgery.

Recovery from a rhinoplasty is quite fast. The inflammation and bruises that may appear will disappear in a few days. The swelling varies according to each patient and the procedures performed. In general, there is a lot of inflammation during the first 3-4 days, but it will decrease and eventually disappear after about 15 days in most cases.

The postoperative nasal plugs that are used are special and allow the patient to breathe from the first day. However, depending on the technique performed, they may or may not be necessary. The splint should be worn for 6 or 7 days, being careful to avoid trauma.

The postoperative period of a rhinoplasty is not painful. However, sometimes patients report discomfort and a feeling of nasal congestion. For this reason, analgesics will be prescribed to reduce this discomfort and the application of a cold mask (Hiloterapia) is recommended.

It is recommended not to make strong physical efforts the first days after the intervention. In addition, the patient must wash the nasal passages with saline solutions three times a day.

In a few weeks the nose will have returned to normal, however, it may undergo subtle changes in the following months, due to residual edema, especially at the tip of the nose. In general, once 6 months have passed, the final results of a rhinoplasty can be seen.

Effortless activities at home can be resumed 48 hours after the rhinoplasty operation. Work or school activities, carried out outside the home, can resume after approximately 4 business days plus the two days of the weekend before and after. With the exception of contact sports, which will have to wait longer, in approximately 3-4 weeks you will be able to resume exercise.

Rhinoplasty is not usually recommended until reaching physical maturity, that is, until the development of the nose has been completed. In girls it is usually at 14 or 15 years old, while in boys it happens somewhat later, so they must wait until they are through adolescence. However, it is advisable to wait until the age of 18.

If it is a cold or another illness, we will have to wait until the patient is recovered to perform the operation. With a rhinoplasty, allergies will not get better or worse. In this case, the intervention is usually scheduled in the months when this problem is least suffered.

There is no contraindication in this regard, but makeup must be removed properly before going to bed.

It is totally discouraged to smoke after a rhinoplasty. This harmful habit introduces nicotine into our body and other harmful substances that hinder blood flow. As a consequence, wounds receive less oxygen and nutrients, causing slow healing.
