LIPOSUCTION

LIPOSCULPTURE AND LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction or liposculpture (Lipo Body Contouring) is a type of cosmetic surgery that allows correcting those areas of the body where localized fat persists.

This accumulation of fat, which refuses to disappear despite exercising and following a balanced diet, creates disharmony in the figure.

With liposuction, small incisions are made under the skin and by means of fine cannulas, excess fat is aspiratedsuch as hips, abdomen, thighs or buttocks, providing shape and definition.

However, it is important to note that it is not a method to treat patients who are overweight or obese, but rather to eliminate localized fat that does not disappear. For the results to be permanent, the patient must maintain a healthy life, through regular exercise and correct eating habits.

SURGERY

Surgery can be performed with local anesthesia and sedation, epidural plus sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the fat and area to be intervened. In the same intervention, a gluteoplasty and/or a breast augmentation, placing implants or through fat transfer (lipofilling).

In the first consultation, the surgeon will make an assessment of the patient’s state of health and will determine the areas where there is excess fat, taking into account the quality of the skin in that area. Finally, he will advise you on the best technique to achieve a proper body silhouette.

After surgery, girdles or compression stockings should be placed on the treated area. This will reduce swelling and bruising, also helping the skin to adapt to the new contour.

This girdle should be worn for approximately one month and, later, during the day or on specific occasions, as considered by the expert surgeon.

Although the results of liposuction are immediate, it takes time for the inflammation to disappear and to see the final shape of the new contour.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We could say that they are the same intervention. Liposuction consists of the simple extraction of fat using cannulas. On the other hand, liposculpture is a liposuction that also allows modeling the body contour of the patient to achieve more defined and attractive lines. These would be the main differences between liposuction and liposculpture.

The results of a liposuction and the first improvements in shape and contour will begin to be noticed approximately after a month and a half. After 4-6 months you will be able to appreciate the final result, once everything has been repositioned and the swelling has disappeared.

During the operation, many adipocytes, which are the cells that store fat, are permanently destroyed. Therefore, it is unlikely that you will gain weight in that area again, but to avoid it you must maintain healthy habits.

The incisions are very small and the marks are practically imperceptible, about 3-4 mm in size. In addition to their size, they are carried out in inconspicuous areas so that they go unnoticed.

Depending on the areas treated, a liposculpture lasts between 2 and 3 hours.

Liposuction of up to two areas can be performed only with local anesthesia, although sedation will help the patient to be calmer. In the case of liposuctions in which it is necessary to treat more areas, which will require changes in the patient’s position or when an excessively long surgical time is anticipated, general or epidural anesthesia may be used.

Before liposuction, it is recommended not to smoke or take medications that can alter blood coagulation (such as some pain relievers or some natural products). In addition, in patients who usually take anticoagulants, it will be the doctor who will indicate the suspension.

You should fast for at least 6-7 hours before surgery. It is also advisable not to wear metal in direct contact with the body (such as earrings, chains, watches, rings, etc.) and to go with a clean face, without makeup or nail polish.

It is common for inflammation and bruising to appear in the recovery process from liposuction. Postoperative edema (swelling) varies with each patient and will depend on the areas treated and the amount of fat aspirated. In general, the first 3-4 days the edema will be considerable, it will decrease and normally it will disappear after 15 days. Sometimes drops can come out that can look like blood. Finally, the compression girdle should be worn for approximately one month and it is also advisable to perform massages.

The postoperative period of liposuction is not painful, but like any intervention it can cause discomfort. Most patients report a sensation similar to soreness or stinging. To avoid any type of pain, analgesics will be prescribed, as well as performing lymphatic drainage to reduce inflammation.

The patient should wear a compression garment for approximately the first month, avoid smoking and medications that may promote bleeding, for a period of 48 hours after the procedure. Also, protect yourself from the sun’s rays (SPF 50+) and extreme temperatures (sauna, thermal treatments or freezing weather) during the next two weeks. Finally, one week after the intervention, you will be able to begin applying specific creams.

Most patients return to work 4 days after the intervention. In cases of liposuction with greater extraction of fat, they start their activities three days later, once the dressings and stitches have been removed. In general, they can resume physical exercise a week after the operation.

You will be able to shower normally two days after the intervention, unless the surgeons indicate otherwise.

Cellulite is eliminated with the extraction of the excess fatty accumulation, but orange peel skin is not. One of the aspects that must be assessed when performing the intervention is the state of the skin, in order to avoid subsequent flaccidity problems.
